Entsu-in Temple

Entsu-in Temple

Entsuin is known as a "temple for matchmaking" and a "famous spot for autumn leaves," attracting many visitors. Adjacent to Zuiganji Temple in Matsushima, it is famous as the mortuary temple of Date Masamune's heir, Mitsumune. The mausoleum, "Sanheidan," is designated as an Important Cultural Property and features a painting of roses believed to have been brought back from Europe by Hasekura Tsunenaga. For this reason, it was also known as the "Rose Temple," but it now has a moss garden that provides visitors with tranquility, earning it the title of "Moss Temple." The temple grounds are home to beautiful gardens, which are especially enchanting during the autumn foliage season when they are illuminated, creating a dreamlike scene. The Matchmaking Kannon has cute kokeshi dolls lined up, and visitors can pray for good relationships. Additionally, there is a popular experience where visitors can create their own prayer beads by choosing their favorite stones. Entsuin is an attractive place that harmonizes history and nature, offering peace to those who visit.
