Detailed Information
“Aomori Gyosai Center” is a market with over 40 years of history, conveniently located just a five-minute walk from JR Aomori Station. Affectionately known locally as “Furukawa Market,” it is a popular spot not only among residents but also among tourists from all over Japan. Overlooking Aomori Bay, the market has around 30 shops lined up, offering a wide variety of products such as fresh seafood, meat, prepared foods, and Aomori specialty processed foods.
The market’s biggest attraction is “Nokke Don,” where you can create your own original seafood rice bowl. First, purchase a special “Nokke Don meal ticket” at the information desk inside the market. Then exchange it for a bowl of rice at a rice vendor with a red sign, and visit the various shops in the market to choose your favorite toppings, such as sashimi, rolled omelet, prepared dishes, and meats. You can freely combine local delicacies unique to Aomori, including fresh scallops and seasonal seafood landed in the morning in Mutsu Bay, as well as homemade side dishes made by local women. It’s perfect for those who want to “try a little of everything” or “enjoy both seafood and meat.”
You can enjoy your finished original rice bowl at the rest area inside the market at your own pace (takeout is not permitted for hygiene reasons). However, sashimi can be packaged for takeout if purchased at a fresh fish shop. In addition, the market offers a rich selection of Aomori-style processed foods and souvenirs, such as “Nebuta-zuke” and “nishin no kirikomi,” making it enjoyable for shopping as well.
Although there is no dedicated parking lot, there are many coin-operated parking spaces in the surrounding area, making it convenient to visit by car. Aomori Gyosai Center, where you can customize the fresh flavors of Aomori to suit your own tastes, is a captivating tourist destination where you can experience both the fun of food and the lively atmosphere of a market at the same time.
