Takasaki Mountain Natural Zoo
Located at the foot of Mount Takasaki, which stands at an elevation of 628 meters between Oita City and Beppu City, Takasaki Monkey Park is one of Japan's premier nature zoos where visitors can observe wild Japanese macaques up close. Approximately 1,000 macaques inhabit the park, and during feeding times, many monkeys gather in one area, creating a stunning scene. The staff constantly provides explanations about the monkeys' ecology and behavior, making it a fun learning experience about their natural life. Additionally, visitors can enjoy access via the "Sarucco Rail," which offers beautiful views of Beppu Bay, along with seasonal nature walks. Inside the park, there are the "Monkey Statue" and the "Monkey Underpass," both of which are said to bring good luck.
