Yufudake
Mount Yufu (1,583m) is located in the northeastern part of Yufuin and is referred to as "Bungo Fuji" due to its beautiful twin peaks. It has been regarded as sacred since ancient times and is mentioned in historical texts such as the "Bungo Fudoki" and the "Manyoshu." Its fame increased with the 2005 NHK television series "Kaze no Haruka," making it known nationwide. Visitors can enjoy the changing nature of the seasons, particularly the miyama kirishima flowers in spring, the autumn foliage, and the frost flowers in winter. The best viewing points are the Sagiridai Observatory and the Jagoe Observatory along the Yamanami Highway. From the summit, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Yufuin town, Beppu Bay, and the Kuju mountain range, and it is also one of the few mountains where the rare "Brocken phenomenon" can occasionally be experienced.
