Detailed Information
SHIBUYA SKY is one of Japan’s premier large-scale observation facilities, spanning multiple floors from the 14th to the 47th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square. At the top, the rooftop observation area “SKY STAGE,” located 229 meters above ground, offers a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and, on clear days, even Mount Fuji. In addition to the openness unique to an outdoor space, the night is enhanced by a magical lighting display called “CROSSING LIGHT,” which beautifully illuminates the cityscape.
On the 46th floor, the indoor observation corridor “SKY GALLERY” features interactive content that makes full use of cutting-edge visual technology, along with art exhibits inspired by Shibuya. In the transitional space “SKY GATE,” leading from the 14th to the 46th floor, visitors can enjoy an uplifting experience as visuals, 3D sound, and light come together to create a sense of stepping into another world.
The facility also offers plenty of Instagram-worthy photo spots, including a glass-walled escalator where you can take photos with the streets of Shibuya in the background, as well as a popular spot at the edge of the observation deck known as Sky Edge. Professional photography services are also available.
In addition, the rooftop bar “THE ROOF SHIBUYA SKY,” open for a limited time, allows guests to enjoy drinks and light snacks while taking in the night view, creating a truly special moment. For souvenirs, the limited-edition goods available at the souvenir shop on the 46th floor are also highly recommended.
Opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (last admission at 9:20 p.m.), and visitors can usually stay as long as they like. However, during busy periods, the length of stay may be restricted. Admission around 30 minutes before sunset is especially popular, but reservations in advance are recommended due to expected crowds. Visiting on a clear day is ideal, but please note that the rooftop may be closed in strong winds or bad weather.
SHIBUYA SKY was developed with the aim of inheriting the cultural role once played by the planetarium that stood near the station, and of creating a space that “stimulates imagination and nurtures intellectual curiosity.” It is a one-of-a-kind observation facility where visitors can look out over the history and future of Shibuya while reflecting on their own perspective.
