Jomon Sugi
Jomon Sugi is the most famous giant tree among the Yakusugi trees located on Yakushima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, with an estimated age ranging from 2,170 to 7,200 years. This enormous cedar stands about 25.3 meters tall and has a circumference of approximately 16.4 meters. Its rugged bark tells the story of Yakushima's harsh natural environment. Access to Jomon Sugi requires about a 10-hour trek from the Arakawa trailhead, with Wilson’s Stump and the O-dai Sugi also visible along the way. This giant tree, which evokes a sense of nature's mysteries, is a symbol of Yakushima Island.

- From the entrance of Miyanoura Port, take the bus to Yakusugi Nature Museum operated by Tanegashima and Yakushima, which takes 43 minutes. At the last stop, transfer to the Arakawa Mountaineering Bus (not operating in winter) for 35 minutes. Get off at the last stop and walk for 5 hours.
