白川水源

Shirakawa Suigen

Shirakawa Water Source is a representative spring located in Minamiaso, Kumamoto Prefecture, and is selected as one of the "Top 100 Ruins of Famous Water" by the Ministry of the Environment. Approximately 60 tons of abundant spring water gushes out every minute from an elevation of about 600 meters within the caldera, forming the source of the Shirakawa River. The water temperature remains at a refreshing 14 degrees Celsius throughout the year, and visitors are welcome to drink or take the pure and cold water home. Additionally, heated water and empty bottles are also available for sale, making this spot popular among many visitors. Access
From JR Higo Otsu Station on the Hohi Main Line, take the Sanko Bus bound for Takamori Station for 53 minutes, and get off at Shirakawa Suigen Entrance. It takes about 80 minutes from Kumamoto city, about 40 minutes from Kumamoto Airport, and about 25 minutes from Aso Kusasenrigahama.
