Lake Towada

Lake Towada

Lake Towada is a magnificent and beautiful caldera lake, featuring an expansive panorama that reflects the seasonal landscapes like a mirror on its tranquil surface. The deepest part of the lake reaches 327 meters, making it the third deepest lake in Japan. Formed about 200,000 years ago, this lake is shrouded in mystery and is often referred to as the "Mystic Lake" because it does not freeze even in winter. Along the lakeshore, you can find Kotaro Takamura's "Statue of the Maiden", and visitors can enjoy fresh greenery, autumn leaves, icicles, and icefalls throughout the seasons. The areas surrounding the lake are covered with natural forests, teeming with various plants and animals. Designated as a special scenic spot, the lake is also famous for its Hime masu (a type of salmon). Lake Towada is located within the Towada-Hachimantai National Park and is easily accessible, taking about two hours by car from Aomori Station. Here, you can enjoy a variety of activities such as canoeing, sightseeing boat rides, cycling, and strolling along the lakeside promenade. Additionally, "Towada Shrine" is known as a power spot, providing healing and inspiration to many visitors.
