Upopoy (National Ainu Museum and Park)

Upopoy (the Symbolic Space for Ethnic Harmony) is a national center aimed at the revival and development of Ainu culture, surrounded by the rich nature of Lake Poroto. "Upopoy" means "to sing" in the Ainu language. Here, visitors can learn about Ainu history, culture, and traditions through the National Ainu Museum and the National Ethnic Harmony Park. Traditional Ainu dance and crafts are displayed, and various experiential programs are offered, along with restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy Ainu culinary culture. Upopoy symbolizes the promotion and respect of Ainu culture and aims for the dignity of indigenous peoples and the coexistence of diverse cultures. Located in Shiraoi Town, this facility serves as a hub for the revival and creation of Japan's precious cultural heritage, conveying the Ainu worldview to many people.
