Detailed Information
Minoh Falls is a magnificent waterfall located in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture. With a drop of 33 meters and a width of about 5 meters, it is one of Japan’s 100 Best Waterfalls. Its name comes from the resemblance of the cascading water to a traditional farming tool called a “mino,” a winnowing basket used to separate grain, and it is also the origin of the present-day place name “Minoh.”
Minoh Park, where the waterfall is located, lies within a section of the Meiji no Mori Minoh Quasi-National Park and was selected in 1986 as one of the “100 Best Forest Bathing Spots.” From Hankyu Minoo Station, it is about a 40-minute walk along the riverside path known as the “Takimichi” or Waterfall Trail. Along the way, visitors can enjoy scenery that changes with the seasons while surrounded by the sounds of nature.
Autumn is especially famous for its brilliant foliage, and from mid-November to early December the area is crowded with many tourists. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom; in summer, lush new greenery appears; and in winter, icy waterfalls and snowy landscapes create beautiful scenes. One of Minoh Falls’ charms is that it offers a different appeal throughout the year.
Nearby attractions include Ryuanji Temple, which enshrines Japan’s oldest Benzaiten; Mount Tenjogatake, a sacred site of Shugendo associated with the ascetic En no Gyoja; and the Minoh Park Insect Museum, where visitors can enjoy around 10,000 insect specimens and a butterfly house. Together, they offer a chance to experience both nature and history at the same time.
With convenient access just 30 minutes by train from Osaka Umeda, Minoh Falls is beloved by many as a healing destination where people can easily escape the bustle of the city and relax in nature.
