Rainbow Pine Grove

Rainbow Pine Grove

Niji no Matsubara is one of Japan's three great pine forests, stretching approximately 4.5 km along the coastline of Karatsu City in Saga Prefecture, and it has been designated as a special scenic spot by the government. The planting began in the early 17th century by the first lord of the Karatsu Domain, Terasawa Hirotaka, for the purpose of wind and tide protection, and now about one million black pines thrive in the area. There are numerous intriguing stories associated with this pine forest, such as the legend of "Niji no Matsubara" and the "Seven Wonders" related to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Its beautiful scenery captivates many tourists.
