Rurikouji
Rurikōji Temple is a historic temple located in Yamaguchi City, founded in the third year of the Bunmei era (1471) by the wife of Takuhōbō to honor her husband's memory. It was originally called Anyōji. In the first year of the Meō era (1492), it was renamed Rurikōji, and in the third year of the Genroku era (1690), it moved to its current location from Kōjakuzan. It belongs to the Sōtō sect of Zen Buddhism, with the mountain name of Honeizan, and is known as one of the leading large temples in the Bōchō region, with Yakushi Nyorai as its main deity. The national treasure of Rurikōji, the five-story pagoda, is considered one of Japan's three famous pagodas and is a masterpiece of the Ōuchi culture from the Muromachi period. The beauty of the harmony with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves is stunning, along with the nighttime illuminations that should not be missed. Be sure to visit Rurikōji Temple, where history and nature are in perfect harmony.
