Hofu Tenman-gu
Bōfu Tenmangū is the first Tenmangū shrine in Japan, founded in 904, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. It is one of the three major Tenjin shrines in Japan, alongside Kitano Tenmangū in Kyoto and Dazaifu Tenmangū in Fukuoka. Many visitors come to offer prayers for passing exams and academic success, inspired by Michizane, who is known as the god of learning. The shrine grounds are dotted with historic buildings and cultural properties, with the main shrine and the museum, both designated as registered tangible cultural properties, being notable highlights. Additionally, during the plum blossom season, a "Plum Festival" is held, featuring around 1,100 plum trees that beautify the shrine grounds. This shrine, where history and nature intertwine, also offers special events and unique goshuin stamps for visitors to enjoy.
