Shirarahama in Wakayama Prefecture is a beautiful coastal area in Japan.
Historical Background
From the Meiji to the Taisho era, the sand of Shirarahama was mined as a raw material for glass and transported to Osaka. However, due to changes in glass manufacturing methods and landscape protection, sand mining was halted.
Summer Beach Resort: Today, Shirarahama is known as one of the premier beach resorts in the Kinki region. In the summer, it attracts many beachgoers, especially from the Kinki area, with the opening of the beach occurring annually on May 3rd. Over the summer season, approximately 600,000 tourists visit.
Events and Fireworks
