Detailed Information
Hasshoku Center is a huge comprehensive market in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, and a community-based tourist attraction often referred to as “Hachinohe’s kitchen.” Spanning about 170 meters in length and over 4,200 square meters in total area, the expansive facility is home to around 60 specialty shops lined up one after another, with fresh seafood at the center and a wide selection of local specialties from Hachinohe and southern Aomori, including fruits and vegetables, meat, dried foods, sweets, local sake, and souvenirs.
Fresh Seafood and a Wide Variety of Ingredients
One of the greatest charms of Hasshoku Center is the opportunity to find freshly landed seafood from Hachinohe Port alongside locally grown vegetables, meats, and processed foods all in one place. In the market building, lively calls echo through the air, and visitors can enjoy familiar local flavors beloved by residents as well as popular souvenirs for tourists amid the bustling atmosphere. Simply visiting this spot allows you to experience Hachinohe’s food culture firsthand.
Dining Areas: “Kuriya Stadium” and “Ajiyokocho”
The facility also features a well-stocked dining area where you can immediately savor the flavors unique to Hachinohe.
Kuriya Stadium
This dining zone offers a relaxed setting where you can leisurely enjoy seafood dishes made generously with seafood caught in nearby waters, as well as local Hachinohe cuisine. You can taste authentic dishes in a calm atmosphere.
Ajiyokocho
This dining zone brings together casual local gourmet options such as Hachinohe ramen, soba, and udon. With its easygoing style, it is a popular area where visitors can discover local soul food.
Charcoal-Grilling Experience: “Shichirin Village”
One of Hasshoku Center’s signature attractions is “Shichirin Village.” Here, you can purchase seafood and meat from the market and grill them yourself over charcoal.
To use the facility, first pay the usage fee at the reception and secure a seat. The set includes soy sauce, salt, pepper, tongs, and other utensils, so you can enjoy it empty-handed if you like.
The standard usage time is two hours, though it may change depending on congestion and other conditions, so checking in advance is recommended.
For example, the fresh seafood shop “Iwasho” in the center offers a wide selection of fresh marine products such as oysters, sea squirts, squid, and surf clams, as well as convenient ingredient sets like the “Shichirin Village Set.”
Also popular as a side dish for charcoal-grilled meals is the restaurant “Yakutake” near Shichirin Village, where you can buy grilled fish and Hachinohe’s local specialty, “Hachinohe senbei-jiru.” Senbei-jiru has a comforting local flavor, made with a soy sauce-based broth featuring a double stock of dried sardines and chicken. Senbei-jiru is also served inside Shichirin Village, allowing you to compare the flavors of different shops.
Freshly grilled seafood is plump, fragrant, and truly exquisite. As an experiential gourmet facility where you can enjoy local flavors over charcoal, Shichirin Village is a must-visit spot when coming to Hasshoku Center.
Events and Experience Programs
A variety of events are held throughout the year at Hasshoku Center. Representative examples include the music event “Hasshoku Summer Free Live” and the cooking experience program “Hasshoku Cooking Dojo,” which are enjoyable for everyone from children to adults (*some programs require advance reservations).
Event details vary depending on the season, so it is recommended to check the official website before visiting.
Centered on fresh seafood landed at Hachinohe Port, Hasshoku Center is an attractive market packed with Hachinohe’s “food,” “fun,” and “play,” where you can enjoy local specialties and regional dishes. From shopping and dining to charcoal-grilling experiences and events, it is a facility where you can fully enjoy Hachinohe with all five senses. We invite you to spend a relaxing day here with family and friends.
