Detailed Information
The Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel is known as a landmark of the Osaka Bay Area and is one of the largest Ferris wheels in the world. It is located about a 5-minute walk from Osaka Metro's Chuo Line at Osaka Port Station, right next to the popular aquarium, Kaiyukan. With a height of 112.5 meters and a diameter of 100 meters, it boasts an overwhelming scale. Opened in 1997, it continues to be enjoyed by many tourists.
A complete rotation takes about 15 minutes, and on clear days, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view that extends to the Ikoma Mountains in the east, the Rokko Mountains in the north, the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge in the west, and Kansai International Airport in the south. It offers an excellent aerial experience that feels as if you are overlooking the entire Kansai area from the sky.
There are a total of 60 cabins on the Ferris wheel, three of which are wheelchair-accessible. Additionally, there are currently four transparent “clear gondolas” that allow for a thrilling sensation of floating in mid-air. During the ride, audio guides in Japanese and English provide commentary to enhance your viewing experience with educational insights.
At night, the Ferris wheel is beautifully lit with LED lighting, having won the "Good Design Award" in 2015. As a world-first presentation, the lighting combines indirect and direct light to create large fireworks patterns and kaleidoscope-like art, even providing weather forecasts for the following day through colors and movements. This stunning light display has become a signature of the Osaka Port night scene and is perfect for concluding a date or a sightseeing adventure.
In the vicinity, you can find the world's largest aquarium, Kaiyukan, as well as the Tempozan Marketplace for shopping and dining, which includes many cafes. It is highly recommended to stop by before or after visiting the Ferris wheel. The Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel is an essential sightseeing spot in Osaka, offering different charms both day and night.
