Detailed Information
Grand Front Osaka is one of Western Japan’s largest mixed-use commercial complexes, located on the north side of JR Osaka Station in the so-called “Umekita” area. Opened in April 2013, it consists of four high-rise buildings on a vast site of about 7 hectares. This urban complex offers a new city space where visitors can enjoy shopping, dining, learning, entertainment, and even accommodation all in one place.
A Diverse Shopping and Dining Experience
Centered around the North and South Buildings, Grand Front Osaka is home to about 260 shops and restaurants, covering a wide range of categories including fashion, goods, lifestyle, beauty, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Its lineup features flagship stores opening in Western Japan for the first time, carefully curated select shops, and distinctive specialty stores, offering something for every taste and need.
In addition, “Umekita Dining” on the 7th to 9th floors of the South Building brings together about 35 diverse dining establishments, allowing guests to enjoy food in a variety of settings. On the 6th floor of the North Building, “UMEKITA FLOOR” features 14 unique restaurants and remains lively from day to night.
A Hub for Intellectual Entertainment: Knowledge Capital
At the core of Grand Front Osaka is “Knowledge Capital,” a hub for intellectual creativity and exchange. Here, visitors can experience exhibitions, workshops, seminars, business matching, and more related to cutting-edge technology, art, and education. It serves as a place where companies, researchers, creators, and the general public interact without barriers to generate new ideas and innovation.
“Umekita Plaza,” in Harmony with Nature
At the center of the complex is “Umekita Plaza,” a space of about 10,000 square meters where visitors can spend relaxing time surrounded by greenery and water. The plaza also features “Ted Hyber,” a 3.5-meter-tall bear art piece by French contemporary artist Fabrice Hyber, beloved by visitors.
In addition, “Umekita Cellar” (located on B1 of the South Building and B1–1F of Umekita Plaza) offers a new style of food space, ideal for everyday shopping and casual dining.
A Symbol of Hospitality: InterContinental Hotel Osaka
Located in the South Building, InterContinental Hotel Osaka is a luxury hotel that provides world-class service. In addition to approximately 270 guest rooms, it features five restaurants and bars, a spa, a fitness center, and other extensive facilities, making it a popular choice for travelers from Japan and abroad.
A Family-Friendly Destination
The complex is also well equipped for families with children. At the indoor playland “KID-O-KID,” children can play freely regardless of the weather. Meanwhile, Panasonic Center Osaka offers visitors the chance to experience the latest home appliances and lifestyle concepts, making it a popular spot for parents and children alike.
A Town Built Through Art and Music
Grand Front Osaka actively promotes urban development through art and music. Through “ART SCRAMBLE,” visitors can enjoy art pieces integrated into everyday life throughout the area, offering new discoveries on every visit. “MUSIC BUSKER IN UMEKITA AWARD” is a live event that selects and honors talented musicians, and in collaboration with FM802, it also provides opportunities for media appearances and further success.
Convenient Area Shuttle Bus for Sightseeing
The “Area Shuttle Bus” also operates, making it easy to travel around the Umeda area comfortably. Recognizable by its green body and dedicated bus stops, it is a popular approximately 30-minute sightseeing route that allows visitors to casually cruise around Umeda between sightseeing or business engagements.
A New Vision at the 10-Year Milestone
On April 26, 2023, Grand Front Osaka marked its 10th anniversary since the opening of the district. To commemorate this milestone, a new vision was announced under the slogan “Let’s create it together.” This vision reflects the desire to be a continuously evolving city that embraces diverse people, welcomes people, things, and experiences from around the world, and fosters encounters and connections with Osaka’s characteristic friendliness.
