Detailed Information
Fuji Motosuko Resort is a resort facility located in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture, surrounded by the majestic natural beauty of the foot of Mount Fuji. Situated about 4 kilometers from Lake Motosu, one of the Fuji Five Lakes and especially famous for its beautiful views of Mount Fuji, it offers a picturesque landscape where seasonal flowers and Mount Fuji come together in perfect harmony.
Every spring, Fuji Motosuko Resort hosts the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, one of the largest moss phlox events in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Around 500,000 moss phlox plants bloom across the venue, covering the vast grounds at the foot of Mount Fuji in a carpet of pink.
The festival’s greatest highlight is the breathtaking view of colorful moss phlox in pink, white, and purple spreading out against the backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Fuji. On sunny days, the contrast between Mount Fuji’s grandeur and the vivid colors of the moss phlox becomes even more striking, creating a truly spectacular scene. The open setting, with nothing to block the view, leaves a lasting impression on visitors and is especially popular with photography enthusiasts and tourists.
At the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, multiple varieties of moss phlox, mainly in pink and purple tones, are planted, allowing visitors to enjoy beautiful gradations created by differences in color and blooming patterns among the varieties. Since the blooming periods vary by type, one of the festival’s charms is that the flowers remain at their best for an extended period throughout the event. Each year also features a unique theme, offering a new seasonal landscape every time you visit.
The venue also features plenty of photo spots unique to the Fuji Shibazakura Festival. There are objects, benches, and photo frames set up for taking pictures with moss phlox and Mount Fuji in the background, making it easy to capture social media-worthy photos. The photo spots are thoughtfully redesigned each year, ensuring that visitors always find something new to enjoy.
Depending on the year, there may also be periods when pets are allowed under certain conditions, as well as photo spots where you can enjoy taking pictures with your dog. Since the detailed rules vary from year to year, it is recommended to check them before visiting.
Gourmet food is another highlight of the Fuji Shibazakura Festival. The venue offers a wide selection of takeout foods unique to Yamanashi, such as “Mount Fuji Lava Fried Chicken” and soft serve topped with Kikyo Shingen Mochi. With menu items made from local ingredients, visitors can casually enjoy a meal while admiring the moss phlox.
In addition, in conjunction with the festival season, the Peter Rabbit™ English Garden, one of the largest British-style gardens in the Kanto region, also opens within the grounds. This garden recreates the world of the picture book The Tale of Peter Rabbit, with seasonal flowers in full bloom, allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll as if they had stepped into the story. There is also a café, shop, and museum on-site, making it a relaxing place to spend time alongside the moss phlox.
During the spring season, photo submission campaigns linked with nearby facilities may also be held, creating initiatives that allow more people to enjoy the scenery of Mount Fuji and the flowers.
In addition to the spring Fuji Shibazakura Festival, the Rainbow Flower Festival is held in autumn, when around 80,000 flowers such as zinnias and salvias color the grounds in vivid hues. Being able to enjoy a collaboration of Mount Fuji and flowers with a different atmosphere from spring is one of the unique charms of Fuji Motosuko Resort.
With its magnificent views of Mount Fuji and the ever-changing beauty of seasonal flowers, Fuji Motosuko Resort is a recommended destination for a wide range of visitors, from families and couples to photography enthusiasts. Whether in spring or autumn, be sure to experience these special moments with distinct charms for yourself on-site.
