Detailed Information
Kiyosato Terrace is a spectacular café terrace in the summit area of Sun Meadows Kiyosato in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, designed around the concept of a “special seat at 1,900 meters above sea level.” Located in the highest area of the Kiyosato region, Kiyosato Terrace sits at an elevation of 1,900 meters and offers sweeping views of majestic scenery stretching below, including Mt. Fuji, the Noyama Plateau, and the Chichibu mountain range. On clear days, the sky turns a vivid, cloudless blue known as the “Yatsugatake Blue,” and if you’re lucky, you may even catch a view of a sea of clouds.
Access to the summit is by the Panorama Lift, which stretches approximately 1,100 meters and takes about 10 minutes. This aerial ride to 1,900 meters, accompanied by birdsong and a refreshing breeze, is a special experience unique to Kiyosato Terrace. After getting off the lift and climbing a set of stairs, visitors arrive at the observation area, where they’ll find Café 1920, the highest café on the Kiyosato Plateau, as well as a second observation deck equipped with beach sofas and counters.
Within the terrace, large circular garden sofas where you can stretch out and relax, outdoor sofas placed on the observation deck, and bed sofas are scattered throughout the area. Surrounded by grass and greenery, you can take off your shoes, lie back, look up at the sky, or gaze out at the breathtaking panorama before you—enjoying the open, liberating atmosphere that only a mountain resort can offer.
Kiyosato Terrace also features a reservation-only “Premium Seat” area with just five seats. This is the only paid area at Kiyosato Terrace that can be reserved in advance, allowing guests to enjoy a private and comfortable stay even during busy periods. It is ideal for those who want to leisurely enjoy the popular garden sofas on their own, or for those who wish to fully take in the spectacular views without any interruptions. Reservations open two weeks before the desired date of use.
Enhancing the relaxing experience is the café menu. Alongside Maruyama Coffee’s original blended coffee, there is a wide selection of drinks and sweets, including smoothies and gelato made with seasonal fruits abundant in Yamanashi, Japan’s famed “Fruit Kingdom.” The most popular item is the Kiyosato Terrace Sky Parfait, generously topped with peaches, berries, and other fruits—a luxurious treat to enjoy while admiring the grand natural scenery.
Kiyosato Terrace is also a panoramic area open during the green season, when Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort is not operating as a ski resort. Thanks to its elevation of 1,900 meters, temperatures here are more than 10°C lower than in central Tokyo, making it cool and comfortable even in summer and highly popular as a summer retreat.
In addition to Kiyosato Terrace, Sun Meadows Kiyosato offers a variety of other areas. In the Active Area, visitors can enjoy G-KART, a rare activity in Japan where you race down steep slopes on a sled with a handle. There is also a day-camp area for barbecuing in nature, a Chill Area themed around enjoying “doing nothing,” and a Free Area where you can picnic or take a nap—providing plenty of space to spend time freely, much like in a park. The Center Area also includes restaurants and shops where you can savor seasonal Kiyosato ingredients.
With its clear air, magnificent nature, luxurious sofas, and delicious café menu, Kiyosato Terrace is a special place where you can forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life and refresh both body and mind. It is the perfect mountain resort for those who want to spend a relaxing time surrounded by extraordinary scenery.
