Naki-jin Castle Ruins
Nakijin Castle Ruins is a historic site built as the residence of the king of the northern kingdom during the time of the Three Kingdoms of Okinawa. It is located in the northern part of Okinawa Island. The castle, situated on a hill at an elevation of 90 to 100 meters, is surrounded by stone walls that rise between 3 to 8 meters high and stretch for about 1.5 kilometers in length. The interior of the castle features ten enclosures, with a stone-paved path leading from the main gate to the large courtyard. In 2000, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu." From mid-January to early February, the cold pink cherry blossoms bloom spectacularly, and the "Gusuku Sakura Festival" is held, making it a popular spot for tourists.
