Shukkei-en Garden
Shukkeien Garden is a daimyo garden built in 1620 as a retreat for the Hiroshima feudal lord, Asano Nagamasa, by his tea-master retainer, Ueda Soko. It is known to have been modeled after the West Lake in Hangzhou, China, and the garden features scenery that skillfully captures the beauty of mountains and rivers, as well as the charm of Kyoto. In the center, there is the Chakyu Pond, which is dotted with islands of various sizes, allowing visitors to enjoy the entire garden while strolling along bridges and pavilions. Although it suffered devastating damage from the atomic bomb in 1945, structures like Seifukan and Meigetsutei have been restored, and the garden maintains its beautiful landscape to this day. The garden is adorned with flowers throughout the seasons, captivating all who visit.
