Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome)
The Atomic Bomb Dome is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Hiroshima City, and it is a building that was damaged by the first nuclear weapon used in human history. It remains almost intact from the time of the bombing, serving as a symbolic presence that conveys the horrors of nuclear weapons and the importance of peace to future generations. Constructed in 1915 as the "Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall," it suffered significant damage when the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945; however, part of the building miraculously remained. Inscribed as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1996, it continues to speak to many as a symbol of peace.
