Bitchū Matsuyama Castle
Bitchu Matsuyama Castle is the only surviving hilltop castle in Japan with an existing main keep, and it is one of the 12 castles from the Edo period that still stands today. Perched at an altitude of 430 meters on Mount Gagyusan, this castle is surrounded by massive cliffs rising over 10 meters high, known for its impregnable fortress. Particularly popular from September to April, it is known as the "Sky Castle" enveloped in sea of clouds, attracting many visitors who are eager to capture its ethereal scenery. If you're aiming to photograph the sea of clouds, the early morning viewpoint is the perfect spot.
