Takayama Inari Shrine
When it comes to Senbon Torii (thousand torii gates), Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is famous among international visitors. However, in recent years, Takayama Inari Shrine in Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture, has also gained attention as a mysterious place known for its Senbon Torii. Approximately 2-meter tall vermilion torii gates line up endlessly, harmonizing with the seasonal nature to create a breathtaking, otherworldly beauty. Especially in spring with cherry blossoms, summer with fresh greenery, and winter with snowy landscapes, the scenery is truly impressive and loved as a picturesque spot by many. The shrine is believed to have been established between the Kamakura and Muromachi periods and is worshiped as a deity of abundant harvests, maritime safety, and prosperous commerce. Since the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen in 2016, its beauty has spread through social media, attracting many tourists and worshippers. Located about 30 minutes by car from JR Goshogawara Station, it is a mystical shrine worth visiting.
