Detailed Information
Tokyo DisneySea, which opened in 2001, is the world's first Disney theme park themed around the "sea." Emphasizing adventure, romance, and discovery, it was designed as a park with a unique charm aimed at adults, differentiating it from Tokyo Disneyland. Since its opening, the number of visitors has increased, particularly with many guests aged 40 and above, making it a beloved attraction across generations.
The park has continued to invest in providing memorable experiences. In 2004, it launched a nighttime spectacular called "BraviSEAmo!" which tells an epic story of the spirits of water and fire. In 2005, it introduced the roller coaster "Raging Spirits," featuring a 360-degree vertical loop. The park celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2006 with the opening of the major attraction "Tower of Terror." That same year, the combined total of visitors to Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland reached 400 million, solidifying DisneySea's status as a major theme park alongside Disneyland.
In response to this growth, Tokyo DisneySea has shifted its focus to promote foundational values like "family entertainment," "Disney's dream world," and "extraordinary experiences," aiming to create a park that can be enjoyed by all generations. The development of attractions and character-driven entertainment that can be enjoyed by a wide range of guests, from children to seniors, has been emphasized over thrill rides.
In 2009, "Turtle Talk" based on the movie "Finding Nemo" was introduced, followed by "Mickey & Friends Greeting Trail" and "Jasmine’s Flying Carpets" in 2011, and "Toy Story Mania!" in 2012, further broadening the park's appeal and guest demographics.
On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck, causing transportation disruptions that left about 20,000 guests in the park. However, the cast members effectively managed the situation, minimizing confusion beyond the standard protocols. After a temporary closure, Tokyo DisneySea reopened on April 28, welcoming back the smiles of guests.
The park consists of eight themed ports inspired by stories and legends related to the sea:
- Mediterranean Harbor: A romantic entrance that recreates a Southern European port town.
- American Waterfront: A nostalgic port town reflecting early 20th-century New York and Cape Cod.
- Port Discovery: An area portraying a future marina where nature and science blend.
- Lost River Delta: Themed around ancient ruins hidden in the jungles of Central America in the 1930s.
- Arabian Coast: A magical area that immerses visitors in the world of "Arabian Nights."
- Mermaid Lagoon: A colorful and fantastic indoor facility that recreates the underwater kingdom from "The Little Mermaid."
- Mysterious Island: Surrounded by the Prometheus volcano, Captain Nemo's secret base offers adventures into the unknown.
Additionally, a new themed port, "Fantasy Springs," will grand open in June 2024. This area comprises three sections themed around "Frozen," "Tangled," and "Peter Pan," along with an integrated hotel, capturing attention as a space where guests can deeply immerse themselves in Disney fantasies.
Latest popular attractions include "Soaring: Fantastic Flight," which offers a sensation of flying, and "Toy Story Mania!" where guests can enjoy activities with Woody and friends. The harbor also hosts "Mickey & Friends Harbor Greeting," where Mickey and friends greet guests from a boat, adding to the allure of the shows and scenery.
Tokyo DisneySea is a "sea of adventure and imagination" that combines narrative-rich spatial design, beautiful locations, high-quality entertainment, and diverse attractions, ensuring new discoveries with every visit.
