Detailed Information

Tokyo Disneyland is a theme park that opened on April 15, 1983, carrying on Walt Disney’s philosophy of being “a place that gives happiness to people.” Located within Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, it is easily accessible from central Tokyo; by taking the JR Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station, you can reach the nearest station, Maihama, in about 15 minutes. Its convenient location and the scale and quality that make it one of Japan’s leading theme parks are part of its appeal.

It was the first Disney park ever built outside the United States. Operations are handled by Oriental Land Co., while licenses for themes and characters are provided by The Walt Disney Company. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are also known as the only Disney parks in the world not directly owned by Disney.

With annual attendance ranking second among theme parks in Japan and placing among the top in the world, it continues to be loved by guests across generations and borders.

■ Philosophy and Appeal
Tokyo Disneyland is based on the concept of “family entertainment,” aiming to be a place where people of all ages—from children to adults—can laugh, be amazed, discover new things, and have fun through shared experiences.

Its greatest appeal lies in the opportunity to “experience in real life” the worlds of beloved Disney film characters and stories through attractions, shows, restaurants, shops, and the overall atmosphere of the park. The idea that the entire park becomes one grand show is thoroughly realized through the participation of guests, who are called “guests,” while the staff are called “cast members.”

■ Park Layout: Seven Themed Lands
Tokyo Disneyland is centered around Cinderella Castle and consists of the following seven themed lands. In each land, not only the attractions but also the shops, restaurants, streetscapes, plantings, and benches are carefully coordinated to create a unified world and a single large story.

[1] World Bazaar
The park’s main entrance area, recreated in the style of an 19th-century American town. With its glass-covered arcade, guests can enjoy shopping and dining regardless of the weather.

[2] Adventureland
An area themed around jungles and the Caribbean. Attractions such as Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean immerse guests in the worlds of Disney classics and adventure stories.

[3] Westernland
A land themed around the American frontier era. The steamboat Mark Twain cruises through the area, and popular attractions such as Big Thunder Mountain can be found here.

[4] Fantasyland
An area filled with the worlds of fairy tales such as Snow White, Peter Pan, and Cinderella. Cinderella Castle stands as an iconic symbol, surrounded by a fairytale atmosphere.

[5] Tomorrowland
An area themed around the future and science. It features futuristic attractions such as Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters.

[6] Critter Country
A lush, nature-filled area themed after “Song of the South.” Splash Mountain is one of the land’s most popular attractions.

[7] Toontown
A town where Disney characters such as Mickey and Minnie live. Its colorful, unique buildings are especially popular with young children.

■ The Appeal of the Attractions
Tokyo Disneyland’s attractions offer a wide range of experiences centered on the stories of Disney films.

• Thrill rides (Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, and others)
• Family-friendly attractions (It’s a Small World, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, and others)
• Story-based attractions (Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and others)
• Rides for young children (attractions in Toontown, etc.)
• Seasonal and show-based attractions

Even the queue areas are richly themed, allowing guests to enjoy waiting in line as part of the story itself.

■ Shows and Parades
Shows and parades are essential to the appeal of Disneyland.

• Daytime parades
• Nighttime parades
• Seasonal events (Halloween, Christmas, and more)
• Character greetings

In particular, the parades are highly polished productions, and the quality of the music, dance, and floats is widely acclaimed around the world.

• Stroller and wheelchair rentals
• Coin lockers (with electronic payment support)
• Delivery service (shipping items from the park to your home)
• Camera center (printing and photo services)
• Multilingual signage and official app support

The park’s guidance and information are easy for first-time visitors to understand, with thoughtful features throughout to ensure everyone can enjoy the park with peace of mind.

■ Food and Dining
Tokyo Disneyland offers a rich selection of cute character-themed foods and limited-time menu items available only at the park.

● Popular Signature Foods
• Smoked turkey leg
• Mickey churro
• Gyōza dog
• Popcorn (available in a variety of flavors)

● Seasonal Food
Event-exclusive menu items and desserts with souvenir items are popular with many guests each time they are offered.

Restaurants and cafés each have a unique atmosphere depending on the themed land, making dining itself feel like part of the show.

Tokyo Disneyland has carried on Walt Disney’s philosophy and, as the “Kingdom of Dreams and Magic,” has captivated people around the world for more than 40 years.

Centered around Cinderella Castle, its seven themed lands, enchanting attractions and shows, warm cast service, and meticulously crafted presentation provide every guest with an unforgettable experience. As a treasure trove of entertainment that can be enjoyed across generations, it remains a theme park that will continue to be “a place that gives happiness” for years to come.
