Toba Aquarium
Toba Aquarium is one of the largest indoor aquariums in Japan, boasting a total length of about 240 meters and a pathway of approximately 1.5 kilometers. It houses around 1,200 species and about 30,000 individual organisms, and it is known for the world's first successful breeding of the finless porpoise. The exhibits are unique, with the "Ancient Sea Zone" showcasing live ancient fish and fossils, and the "Kingdom of Marine Mammals Zone" allowing visitors to observe sea lions directly from above the water's surface. The main highlight is the "Mermaid's Sea Zone," where you can see the only dugong in Japan. Additionally, the otter feeding sessions held three times a day, as well as displays featuring Irrawaddy dolphins and finless porpoises, are also captivating. The aquarium has no set route, so you can freely explore, making it enjoyable all day long. With a variety of souvenirs, including plush dugongs, it is a tourist spot worth visiting.
