Detailed Information
Laguna Ten Bosch is one of Japan’s leading integrated resort complexes, located along the nature-rich coast of Mikawa Bay in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture. It originally opened in 2002 as “Laguna Gamagori,” and in 2014, when its operations came under the same management structure as Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki Prefecture, it adopted its current name, “Laguna Ten Bosch.” On its expansive grounds, surrounded by calm seas and satoyama countryside, visitors can find a theme park, shopping and gourmet facilities, hotels, and more, allowing them to enjoy a seaside resort experience in a variety of styles.
At the center of the complex is Lagunasia, a theme park inspired by the sea. Designed with the image of a “legendary harbor town,” Lagunasia offers attractions, entertainment shows, and illuminations throughout the year. Its wide range of attractions includes thrilling roller coasters and water rides, family-friendly carousels and Ferris wheels, and athletic facilities where visitors can play and stay active, making it suitable for all ages.
One of Lagunasia’s greatest attractions is its seasonal events, which change with the time of year. In summer, it opens as one of the largest water parks in Aichi Prefecture, where visitors can enjoy a day of water play at a wave pool with waves reaching up to about one meter, a lazy river approximately 230 meters long, and various slides. At night, a night pool is held, and one of its major highlights is the chance to watch fireworks in a fantastical, illuminated setting. In winter, the park transforms into a city of illuminations, with about one million lights decorating the grounds.
Lagunasia also offers more than attractions, with a rich lineup of live entertainment shows. Visitors can enjoy powerful performances that combine circus acts, dance, and projection mapping, as well as nighttime mapping shows and illumination shows, providing entertainment both day and night. During peak seasons such as Golden Week, summer vacation, and winter break, “Fireworks Spectacular,” which blends fireworks, fountains, lasers, and video, is also held and has become one of Laguna Ten Bosch’s signature popular events.
Adjacent to the theme park is Festival Market, a seaside facility where visitors can enjoy shopping and gourmet dining. Among its most popular features is Osakana Ichiba, or the Fish Market, which offers fresh seafood, processed marine products, and local specialties. Visitors can also enjoy seafood bowls, sushi, and grilled seafood prepared right on the spot. In addition, there are shops ranging from famous brands to household goods, as well as restaurants with ocean views, making it a pleasant place to stroll while taking in the scenery and night views of Mikawa Bay.
For accommodation, HeaTen Hotel Laguna Ten Bosch is also located on the premises. This hotel is characterized by its cutting-edge technology and unique presentation, including multilingual dinosaur robots that handle check-in and check-out. Because it is directly connected to Lagunasia, guests can fully enjoy the theme park without the burden of travel.
There is also the all-weather children’s facility Shimajiro Seapark, which provides a safe and enjoyable environment for families with young children through play equipment, hands-on attractions, and live shows featuring songs and dances. An indoor kids’ space is also available, making it appealing as a place where visitors can spend time without worrying about the weather.
In terms of access, it is relatively close, being about 1 hour and 10 minutes by car from central Nagoya, and it also has a large parking lot that can accommodate more than 900 vehicles. If traveling by train, it can be reached from JR Gamagori Station by bus or taxi, making it an easy destination to visit whether for a day trip or an overnight stay.
In this way, Laguna Ten Bosch is a comprehensive resort where visitors can enjoy not only “playing,” “shopping,” and “eating,” but also “seeing,” “experiencing,” and “relaxing.” It is a representative tourist destination of Mikawa Bay that can be enjoyed in different ways by families, couples, groups of friends, and seniors alike.
