Meriken Park
Meriken Park was constructed during the Meiji era as a loading port for foreign cargo, preserving its historical background. Within the park, you'll find symbolic structures such as the Port Tower, where you can enjoy stunning night views, the Maritime Museum that provides intriguing information about the sea, and the impressive "BE KOBE" monument. At night, these landmarks are illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere.
From Meriken Park, you can feel the refreshing sea breeze and enjoy the ambiance typical of a port town like Kobe. The adjacent Harborland offers various activities such as shopping and boat cruises. Particularly in the evening, the beautifully lit scenery makes it a worthwhile night spot to visit.
In addition, a major renovation in 2017 saw the opening of one of the largest Starbucks in Western Japan, adding new charm to the area. The Kobe Port Tower, a symbol of the city, is also nearby, providing a panoramic view of Kobe's landscape. Meriken Park and Harborland serve as the heart of Kobe tourism, promising enjoyable moments for those who visit.

Main Tourist Spots
▶ Kobe Port Tower
Kobe Port Tower is a landmark of Kobe. Its beautiful drum-shaped exterior features the world’s first distinctive pipe structure, and from the observation room on the top floor, you can enjoy a sweeping panorama of Kobe Port, the city, and the Rokko mountain range.
It is currently covered with sheets due to renovation work, but a silhouette of the tower is drawn on the covering, and projection mapping is displayed at night.
▶ BE KOBE Monument
This monument was installed in Meriken Park in 2017 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Kobe Port’s opening.
The words “BE KOBE” express a sense of pride in Kobe, embodying the idea that “Kobe’s appeal is its people,” which emerged on the 20th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
▶ Kobe Port Earthquake Memorial Park
This park preserves and maintains a portion of Meriken Wharf, damaged by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, exactly as it was, including 60 meters of the quay wall.
It also features models and videos documenting the damage to Kobe Port and the process of recovery. Visitors can closely observe and truly feel the impact of the earthquake.
▶ Kobe Maritime Museum / Kawasaki Good Times World
At the Kobe Maritime Museum, visitors can learn about the workings of ships, the appeal of cruise liners, and how the port and city have changed over time through actual navigational instruments and ship equipment, diorama models, videos, and more.
“Kawasaki Good Times World” is the corporate museum of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, featuring exhibits of the company’s motorcycles through the years and the No. 0 Shinkansen, as well as hands-on attractions with vehicles that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.
▶ Nakatottei Central Terminal (Kamomeria)
“Kamomeria,” located between Kobe Port Tower and Harborland, is the base for Kobe Port cruises. From here, several sightseeing boats depart for tours around Kobe Port and toward the Akashi Strait area.
With Wi-Fi and restrooms available, it’s a convenient place to stop by while waiting for a cruise or taking a break during a stroll.
