Kasai Rinkai Park is a lush, nature-rich park facing Tokyo Bay, featuring a vast lawn area, the Kasai Marine Aquarium, and the “Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel,” making it a place where families and groups can enjoy an entire day. The bird sanctuary for observing wild birds and the observation facility “Crystal View” are also popular. On Nishi-Nagisa, connected by Kasai Nagisa Bridge, visitors can enjoy barbecues and shellfish gathering. Meanwhile, Higashi-Nagisa has been developed as a protected area for wild birds, and entry is generally prohibited. With a water bus boarding area as well, it is a valuable spot where you can fully enjoy the sea and nature while still in the city.
Details
Kasai Rinkai Park is one of Tokyo’s leading comprehensive parks, combining nature and leisure across a vast site facing Tokyo Bay. With the theme of “interaction among greenery, water, and people,” it is divided into five zones and offers a rare opportunity to connect with the sea, flowers, and wild birds while remaining in the city.
Development began in 1985, and part of the park opened in 1989. Facilities continued to be added afterward: the Bird Sanctuary opened in 1994, the glass-walled observation facility Crystal View in 1995, and the “Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel,” standing 117 meters tall, opened in 2001. It was once known as one of the largest Ferris wheels in Japan. On clear days, Mount Fuji can be seen from the park, and at night its illuminated, fantastical appearance captivates visitors.
Inside the park are gentle grassy lawns, waterside areas, and large flower beds where seasonal flowers bloom throughout the year. In March, about 100,000 rapeseed flowers blossom in full splendor, and from late May to June, the poppy fields reach their peak, with a “Poppy Flower Picking” event also held.
At the popular Kasai Marine Aquarium, about 600 species of marine life are exhibited beneath a 30.7-meter-high glass dome. The giant tank where Pacific bluefin tuna swim and the penguin exhibit are especially impressive.
Kasai Rinkai Park is connected to the floating Kasai Seaside Park by Kasai Nagisa Bridge, designed to resemble a yacht sail. On Nishi-Nagisa, visitors can enjoy barbecues, shellfish gathering, and sport kiting. Higashi-Nagisa is maintained as a bird sanctuary and, in principle, is off-limits to the public.
For getting around the park, the charming Park Train “Nanohana-go” is convenient. It slowly circles the five zones in about 25 minutes, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery.
At the rest house Crystal View, the glass observation floor offers panoramic views of the Ferris wheel and the sea. There is also a restaurant on the first floor and a rest area on the upper floor, making it a comfortable place for visitors to unwind.
The spacious barbecue area offers both a package plan and a tool rental plan, making it easy for everyone from beginners to experienced campers to enjoy outdoor cooking.
At night, the Ferris wheel is lit up, creating a magical atmosphere in which visitors can enjoy views of Tokyo Bay and the city skyline. Access is also excellent, just a one-minute walk from Kasai Rinkai Park Station on the JR Keiyo Line. As a safe urban park equipped with disaster-prevention functions, it is beloved by a wide range of people, including families, couples, and nature lovers.
