Detailed Information
Kawasaki City Fujiko F. Fujio Museum is a cultural facility that showcases the creative journey and world of Fujiko F. Fujio (real name: Hiroshi Fujimoto), who created beloved classics such as "Doraemon," "Perman," "Kiteretsu Daihyakki," and "Shin Obake no Q-taro," which have transcended generations. Built against the backdrop of his long-standing ties to Kawasaki City, where he lived for many years and continued to create comics for children, the museum was conceived from Mrs. Fujiko's wish to "give back to the children who supported him," and it opened on September 3, 2011, in the Ikuta Ryokuchi area with the cooperation of Kawasaki City and Fujiko Pro.
The charm of Fujiko's works lies in their warm humor, realistic depictions of children's everyday lives, and the unique perspective of “SF (sukoshi fushigi)” or “slightly mysterious.” The museum’s mission is to pass on the dreams, friendship, courage, hope, big curiosity, and “kindness to love others” embedded in these works to future generations.
Inside the museum, there are exhibition rooms "Exhibit Room I & II," which display 150–200 carefully selected original artworks from a collection of approximately 50,000 pieces, allowing visitors to deeply appreciate the beauty of the works through original color illustrations and thematic exhibitions. "The Teacher’s Room" features his cherished desk, chair, reference materials, and books, recreating the atmosphere of the creative space. Additionally, there are diverse exhibition spaces such as a "Manga Corner" where visitors can freely read the works and "The Animal Room," which welcomes visitors with animal sculptures based on paper cutouts.
Moreover, the museum offers interactive facilities such as "F Theater," which screens original short animations not available anywhere else, a "Kids Space" for preschoolers, and "Everyone's Square," which recreates Nobita's house at a 1/5 scale. The rooftop "Harappa" serves as a popular photo spot inspired by "the usual vacant lot," complete with pipes, character monuments, and a pond reminiscent of scenes from the works.
The museum café allows visitors to enjoy original menu items themed around the works in an open space, while the first-floor museum shop and gift corner "Fujikoya" sell limited-edition merchandise and popular items like dorayaki.
The facility operates on a fully reserved, date-specific basis, creating an environment where visitors can enjoy the exhibits and space comfortably. It has become a new cultural hub in Kawasaki City that attracts many fans from both domestic and international backgrounds, continuing to communicate the "dreams, kindness, and playful spirit" that Fujiko F. Fujio has conveyed through his works across generations and nations.
