Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street

Tengachaya Shopping Street is located in Kita Ward, Osaka City, and it is the longest shopping street in Japan, stretching from Tenjinbashi to the Seventh Chome of Tenjinbashi. It spans approximately 2.6 kilometers and features around 800 shops, taking about 40 minutes to walk through. At the entrance of the shopping street, welcoming dolls are on display, and once you step into the arcade, a wide variety of stores unfold before you. It condenses local culture with a range of shops such as eateries, delicatessens, traditional knife shops, a tea house established in 1868, a tofu shop, a specialty croquette shop, pottery shops, and kimono stores.

This shopping street developed as the front town of "Osaka Tenmangu," which enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, during the Edo period. Since the Meiji era, it has taken on its current form of diverse shops. At the "Osaka Living History Museum" located in the Sixth Chome, visitors can feel the history of the area.

Additionally, the "Tenjin Matsuri," held every year on July 24 and 25, features portable shrines and local people parading through the shopping street, bustling with stalls and attractions. Tengachaya Shopping Street, where one can glimpse history, food culture, and local life, is a must-visit spot when in Osaka.
