Okayama Castle
Okayama Castle, also known as "Ujo" (Crow Castle), was built in 1597 by Ukita Hideie, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It features a unique three-story, six-floor asymmetrical pentagonal main keep. Its black exterior, made of wooden boarding, gives it the nickname "Ujo," and it has become a landmark of Okayama City. Although it was destroyed in an air raid in 1945, it has since been reconstructed. In November 2022, it completed extensive renovations in the Reiwa era, with exhibitions curated by historian Isoda Michifumi that clearly introduce the history of Okayama. During the spring, summer, and autumn, the "Ujo Lantern Festival" is held, where beautiful nighttime illuminations take place. Additionally, the castle grounds feature an experience workshop for Bizen pottery and a café, making it a place full of attractions.
