Detailed Information
Nasu Highland Park is one of the largest amusement parks in Northern Kanto, located in Nasu Town, Nasu District, Tochigi Prefecture. Situated in the Nasu Highlands at an elevation of about 550 meters, it offers a variety of attractions surrounded by magnificent nature. The park has around 40 attractions, many of which can be enjoyed by young children when accompanied by a parent or guardian, making it a safe and welcoming destination for families. It also aims to be “Japan’s most pet-friendly amusement park,” and features attractions that can be enjoyed with your dog, as well as a dog run and dog café.
Highlights of the Attractions
One of Nasu Highland Park’s biggest attractions is its eight unique roller coasters. The lineup includes thrill rides such as the “Big Burn Coaster” and “F²,” where riders speed along with their feet hanging in the air, satisfying even the most dedicated adrenaline seekers. There are also beginner-friendly coasters, so friends and families can enjoy them according to their comfort level.
The park also offers plenty of indoor attractions that can be enjoyed even on rainy days. Especially popular are the 4D shooting attraction “XD Dark Ride” and Japan’s first cave-exploration attraction, “Cave Exploration MOGURA.” In 2019, the world’s first self-driven VR attraction, “VR Sky Cycle,” and the hide-and-seek-style haunted house “Semakurushii Yashiki” also debuted there (please note that some attractions may currently be temporarily closed).
Recommended Attractions by Occasion
■ For families
For families with small children, “River Adventure” is highly recommended. This thrilling ride descends rapid waters amid splashing waves, and is available for children aged 3 and up. Another popular indoor attraction is “Card Maze Gururi Mori Great Adventure,” a card-maze-style attraction that is fun for all ages.
■ For couples and dates
If you are visiting for a date, “Wave Swinger NEO” at “Carousel Park & Victorian Garden” is a perfect choice. This is Japan’s first super swing ride with paired seats, offering a romantic experience under the blue sky while feeling the Nasu Highlands breeze. You can also enjoy a relaxing time with panoramic views of the Nasu mountain range from the “Great Ferris Wheel.”
■ For friends having fun together
For groups of friends, we recommend going all out on the thrilling rides. In addition to the “Big Burn Coaster” and “F²,” shooting attractions such as “XD Dark Ride” are sure to get everyone excited.
Enjoy the “Wan’derful Park” with Your Pet
Nasu Highland Park is also known as one of the few amusement parks where you can enjoy time with your pet. There are six attractions in the park that you can ride with your dog, including:
- “Fun Kayak” (under 25 kg; life jacket required)
- “Carousel” (double-decker merry-go-round)
- “Teacups”
- “Great Ferris Wheel”
- “Hello Kitty & Friends Pop’n Smile”
- “GiGaMo” (small dogs only)
To use these attractions, you need the special “Wan’derful Pass,” and each ride is for one dog at a time. In addition, there is a 1,300-square-meter outdoor dog run with natural grass, as well as an indoor dog run exclusively for small dogs, so you can play with your dog regardless of the weather. The park is also equipped with leash hooks, water fountains, and other pet-friendly facilities.
Animal Interaction Experiences
The park also features a “Fureai Corner,” where visitors can interact with more than 20 kinds of small animals, including Asian small-clawed otters and capybaras. The chance to relax with both nature and animals is one of the special charms of the Nasu Highlands.
Nasu Highland Park is a theme park set in the rich natural environment of the Nasu Highlands, built around the concept of “play, healing, and coexistence.” With a wide variety of attractions and facilities that can be enjoyed by children, adults, and even pets, it is an amusement park that satisfies visitors of all ages and for every occasion. Why not spend a special time at Nasu Highland Park with your family, friends, partner, or beloved dog?
